From the press conference, Jason says: "Kaz is holding a brand new PSP, which will be available in September of this year. Still has UMD, still has a 4.3-inch screen. It's 30% lighter, however, and 19% slimmer. And they improved the loading to load games faster. But the improvements is in video output: you can hook up video to your TV and display video on a bigscreen." White photo:

There will be a PSP entertainment pack, which comes with Ice Silver, 1GB Memory Stick Duo, and Daxter, and the Family Guy Frickin' Sweet collection. $199 in September. There's another color they want to announce.
11:50 Jason Chen: Hirai is talking about the PSP and PS3 integration now.

We've seen a lot of pretty bad corporate attempts to woo the YouTube crowd -- for every Will It Blend? there's a million PSP disasters -- so these two clips from Fon and Philips score some points for actually making us smile. Fon unleashed a WiFi-seeking matador with a ridiculous fake accent on the streets of San Francisco, eventually sending him to a Starbucks to curse the high access charges and champion the Fon Community. It's not exactly a knee-slapper, but it's fairly amusing when the guy calls it "Wi-fee." On the other hand, Philips' mockumentary for their Bodygroom manscaper is one of the best virals we've seen in a long time -- the sad story of Frank "Furback" Sack and his walk-through Coney Island body hair remover is an inspiration to us all, if only for sheer number of double entendres it contains. Check both videos after the break. (Warning: the Philips video has some mildly blue language in it.)Continue reading C...

Ohh...that new iPhone you got is really nice. Yeah, really! Did you stand in line? Good thinking, even if it cost you your job. What's this I have here? Oh, nothing. Just something I call the iPhone. No, of course it doesn't look like yours. I would never be caught with consumer-grade tech. Is it better? Of course it's better. Let me ask you a question: does your iPhone play UMDs?? Didn't think so. Bitch.

The iPSP software allows you to not only skin your PSP, but links you to handy portals like IM clients. Still, our favorite feature has to be the "turn your PSP" command. The download is free, and besides, what else are you doing with your PSP?

We've always wondered why companies kept cranking out e-dictionaries for the demographic too proud to actually bust one out in public and get their learning on, but Sharp is making amends by offering up a new model in the KIDSDIC series. The KD-E1 arrives in a colorful orange and white enclosure, and features an internal speaker, headphone jack, color display, several mini-games, stories, and songs to keep your kid intrigued in between vowels. Judging by the button layout, it looks like this is a Korean-only gizmo for the time being, but those in Seoul can try to convince their kids that this is cooler than a PSP for a stiff ?365,000 ($397).

After nearly a year of playing cat-and-mouse with Sony's legal and dev teams, it looks like the heat was too much for Dark-AleX, the modder behind a couple (in)famous PSP cracks, including the "run any PSX ISO" 3.02 firmware and the bust-it-wide 3.10 "Open Edition." In a terse posting on his website, the cracker says the effort was not only taking up too much of his time, but that Sony's recent "menaces" to PS3 modders left him unwilling to continue. We can see why he'd drop out, but we're sad to see him go -- the PSP homebrew community owes him a great deal.

Hackers Software enthusiasts exploring the new PSP firmware updates found something ineresting: firmware 3.50 and 3.51 both include a "tiny module" named np9660.prx—better known as Sony's official ISO loader good for launching games off of a memory stick. This finding is right in line with rumblings from Sony to expand upon their downloadable content and PSP functionality. Personally, I'd like to see UMDs ditched completely in a future model of PSP. If there is one platform that can justify completely digital software transactions, it's a portable platform.

It looks like (legally) downloadable PSP games could maybe, possibly be getting ever so slightly closer to reality, as a Sony-made ISO loader has reportedly been discovered in the latest firmware update for the handheld. The current speculation is that the loader, discovered by the prolific Dark_Alex, gives the handheld the ability to load encrypted ISO images off a memory stick, not just the demos and PS1 games the handheld's currently capable of playing. That would, of course, open up the possibility of Sony selling games sans-UMD, which has long been near the top of the wishlist for PSP owners and would-be PSP owners alike. Then again, it could be something entirely less exciting, so we'll just have to wait for Sony to play its hand.

We'd like to officially congratulate the Sony marketing team for graduating from offensive to merely "sending the wrong message." Sony Italy is handing out fake books complete with fake hands to disguise PSP play from those pesky authority figures. There's even a helpful outline of the book you're not reading to get you out of any jams. LeVar Burton will be so disappointed.

iPhone users out there are all pretty well familiar with what sort of content they can view on YouTube at the moment: moonwalking instructional videos are a go, obscure bluegrass fingerpicking tutorials (thanks, Dad) are not. Well, now you've got another option for viewing pointless videos, since it turns out the iPhone can support the iPod/PSP video download option over at Google Video from right within Safari. Not all videos include a download option, and we tried a similar option over at Gametrailers.com to no avail, but who needs alternatives when you can watch sneezing panda eternally? Check out the QuickTime player after the break.
