It looks like high-end PC maker Alienware might soon be following its parent company into the wilds of retail sales, at least according to French blog LaptopSpirit, which claims to have heard as much from Alienware's French marketing director. According to the site, the company could begin selling its systems in "selected stores" as soon as first quarter of 2008, with the retail push expected to extend to every country that Alienware currently sells computers in. While Dell's newfound retail love would certainly seem to make a similar move by Alienware a distinct possibility, we'd still recommend taking this with a grain of salt pending some harder evidence.

We got to check out Sony's new PSP, and what can we say? It's certainly a bit thinner and lighter, but it's not really blowing our minds without any significant hardware changes. Still, we want one. Go figure.

In case you've missed our coverage of the Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo press events, here's a quick recap:
Microsoft
• Microsoft's big Xbox 360 announcement came not with a bang, but a whimper.
• Is the shiny new case enough to distract us from the lack of price cutting?
• But hey, at least we saw some pink. Sadly, they were only pretty controllers.
Nintendo
• Nintendo's got some new hardware goodies on the way for the Wii, like guns and steering wheels.
• They are continuing the Wii Sports craze with an aerobic thing called the Balance Board, so you can get rid of Bowser and your fat ass at the same time.
Sony
• We're happy to see a smaller PSP on the way after all this time, though looks a lot like the old one we've got sitting around here. Somewhere.
• Sony Ericsson phones will be letting you chat in 3D with Sony's Home avatars.
• Like the rest keynotes, not at lo...

It's not quite the PSP 2 some might've hoped for, but Sony is giving its handheld console a serious refresh in the form of a slimmer, lighter and faster "updated" PSP. The new unit still includes the 4.3-inch LCD and UMD, but is 33 percent lighter, 19 percent slimmer, has sped up game load times and improved battery life. The only real "new" features is a video output capability to allow you to play your PSP games on a big screen TV. You can score one in September in the original Piano Black, a new Ice Silver color, and a Star Wars Battlefront special edition. More pics after the break.Continue reading Sony's new PSP is slimmer, includes video output
