Zatz over at Zatznotfunny is telling us that TiVo Desktop 2.4 has hit final, after being in public beta for about two months. Everything you liked from the beta is still there, including HD photos (which he never got to work), TiVoToGo transcoding for iPods and PSPs, plus encoding videos for playback onto your Series 2.
There's no Vista support yet, but you can give XP compatibility mode a shot. – Jason Chen

C'mon, you did think that Sony whippersnapper that confirmed the US PSP price cut was holding back about Europe, didn't you? As these things tend to fall, Europe is getting similar treatment as the US (albeit in a slightly later fashion), as the price of the PlayStation Portable will soon be descending to £130 / €170 (between $231 and $260) across the lake. Additionally, several Platinum titles will be taking a nosedive right along with it, as Ridge Racer 2, Tekken, Killzone, LocoRoco, and Moto GP all sink to £14.99 ($30). Hold your horses before skipping out of work and ripping our your credit card, though, as the price drops aren't slated to take effect until May 4th -- but we'd still recommend keeping a close eye out, as we know all too well how those street dates can fall through hold up.

It came from Japan is all you need to know about this little gadget which charges your real PSP's battery. There really isn't much else to say here: it has a fake D-pad, fake control buttons, and is named PS-P so that it doesn't fully invoke the wrath of Sony's legal department. The PS-P relies on the idea that if you're going to charge your spare PSP battery, it might as well be in a cute little plastic box in-keeping with the style of the primary unit. We can't -- and don't want to -- argue with that, even if it could cost you more than the plain and simple $30 Sony charger.

Sony's just dumped version 3.40 of the PSP firmware to coincide with the new features that last night's PS3 update brought to us. Namely, you can now used save game data from your PS3. Probably also increased compatibility for downloaded PS1 titles as well. Yipee! – Jason Chen

Another PlayStation 3 firmware update, another list of issues. Unfortunately, this seems to be somewhat of a recurring theme, and while users may not have found issues with last month's refresh, the v1.7 isn't as kind. Reportedly, the latest update enables the PS3 "to play PSOne titles that are already saved on your PSP," but numerous sources are suggesting that the feature, um, doesn't work. On a lighter note, PSOne and PS2 dual shock controllers will now shake, rattle, 'n rumble when connected to your PS3, and those with PSPs sitting around can also hit up v3.4 (required for the PSP-to-PS3 playback) on their handheld machine. So, dearest readers, we'll point the question at you: is your recently update PS3 playing nice with those PSOne selections?

Behold the new UMPC with Menlow, for it will "truly put the full Internet in your pocket"! According to Intel Ultra Mobile Group Chief Evangelist, that is. And provided you have the pants of Krusty The Clown and you are ready to take all kinds of "is that the full Internet in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" jokes. The most interesting bit from Mark, showing the Compal prototype in Beijing, was his mention about the Ultra Mobile Platform 2008 running Windows, Linux and Mac OS X:
"This can also run Linux. We don't care what you put on it. [Can you run OS X?] Absol... you know? I bet you could, because the iPhone is going to be running OS X"
While a fully functional PC with 45 nanometer Silverthorn processor running Mac OS X won't be a surprise, it's nice to find that 1) Intel doesn't give a damn about Windows in the brave new world of mobility computing and 2) there seems to be an absol-I-bet-you-could possibility of Apple using Menlow for...

We're about to fire up the old PS3 and download the latest 1.70 firmware update, but here's what we know about it so far. The update lets you play original PS1 games that you download for your PSP on your PS3. Plus, whatever saved games you accrue when doing so can get transferred over to your PSP later. Not sure if you can transfer it back to your PS3.
Also, PS1 and PS2 games that have vibration controls can now be supported with whatever vibration accessories are available for the PS3. This is all Mike from Kotaku sees so far, but if you've got something we've missed let us know in the comments. – Jason Chen

The FED charger will do everything. Plug it into the wall and its six connectors will repower just about any mobile and gadget you'd care to mention. BlackBerries, iPods, PSP, Nintendo Gameboy will all benefit.
And then there's the phones. Just about any model you'd care to mention from Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola (that last one via its mini USB). The extra connectors will also do for LG, Siemens and any of the Sony Ericssons that use the square connector. It will cost you $23 and you can sort of see it in (static) action* after the jump.

Intel has officially presented the Intel Ultra Mobile Platform 2007 (formerly known as McCaslin) and announced the new Menlow architecture with Silverthorn processors for 2008. They have also given us a peek and poke over Redflag's MIDinux Linux distribution, which apparently has been designed for those mobile devices that can't decide if they want to be an iPhone or a PSP when they grow up.
But despite the obvious ripoff interface inspiration, MIDinux is quite interesting because it marks a departure from the Microsoft-based UMPCs, of which the 7-inch HTC Shift is going to be one of the 2007 platform flagships. In fact, it opens a new category of consumer entertainment-oriented, more compact UMPC called MID (yet another acronym that means either "Mobile Internet Device" or "Those Cupertino Rascals May Be Onto Something Again - Let's Try to do the Same Before It's Too Late". Not sure which, but one of the two). More details after the jump.
UMPCs and MIDs will come...
