In honor of David Letterman's 60th birthday -- and for a little bit of cheap PR, of course -- Nintendo sent him a cute little gift pack, not dissimilar to the one they sent President Bush recently, including a couple of DS Lites and some copies of Brain Age to take care of that aging gray matter of his. Here are our top 10 reasons why Letterman needs this package, other than the obvious one: he doesn't.
Saw Leno in line getting a PSP, knew he had to take action. Heard he could get Miyamoto on the show; has no idea what that is. There's a DS port of "Will it Float" on the way. Got a great deal on some stolen games from the dude outside Hello Deli. Been doing standup so long he forgot simple arithmetic. Because he couldn't figure out how to do any stupid pet tricks in Nintendogs. He's always wanted to make his cranium as veiny and muscular as Paul Shaffer's. He's got a three year old who probably p...

We know it's possible to strap a PSP to your steering wheel, but seriously, it's not like we'd recommend taking such a setup onto the open road. Apparently, designers at Kia are throwing caution to the wind and cramming convenience in your face with its Kue concept vehicle, which neatly sports a full-fledged GPS navigation system in place of an airbag. Yeah, you've got Honda trying to stuff such protective devices into frickin' motorcycles, but who needs driver's side safety when you've got a 100,000-mile warranty? Nevertheless, the whip also manages to sport Lambo-doors, swivel seats, a widescreen in-dash display, and what appears to be flush-mounted pillar controls. Of course, the Kue could end up rocking a half dozen airbags in a variety of other locations, but if you're interested in a few more pics of the quasi-street-legal ride, be sure to click on through.Continue reading Kia Kue abandons airbag, swaps in GPS navigation

Why is it that everyone is expecting non-phone devices to come out with phone iterations? I mean, yeah, the iPhone rumor ended up coming true, but does that really mean we want to deal with Zune Phone, PSP Phone, and Google Phone rumors for the next year? Aren't you people ever satisfied?!
Apparently not. I'm skeptical about Sony Ericsson making a PSP Phone just because Sony's been using the XMB interface on a bunch of different products, but Pocket Gamer went ahead and looked at the possibilities of Sony Ericsson creating a PSP phone, including a wish list of features. They've got some good ideas in there, but somehow missed out on the major point that Sony missed with the original PSP: good games. Oh, and make sure it can play UMDs, I'm beginning to think it was a bad idea to replace my DVD collection with them!

Facing a $1 billion budget deficit, Michigan state House Democrats have proposed the natural addition to such a weighted spending plan: free iPods for every kid. Ostensibly for educational purposes, the $38 million plan would provide iPods or MP3 players to every student in Michigan to use as a learning tool. We've seen laptops -- which Michigan (and Virginia) handed out to its students a few year back -- and even PSPs be put to such educational use, but iPods are a bit of a new one on us. Pearson Education does have that curriculum for the iPod, and bought Apple's PowerSchool a little while back, but this would undoubtedly be the largest rollout of such curriculum to date. That said, we're all for the insanity, 'cause just like our iPod always told us: "We don't need no education... Teachers leave those kids alone." And if the iPod says it, it must be true!

We've written about Jajah here before. It's essentially a VoIP calling solution you initiate by plugging in two phone numbers into a web page. If both numbers are Jajah subscribers, the call is free. If not, you pay a small (but slightly higher than Skype or calling card) fee.
Now Jajah's taken their mobile web page and made it PSP compatible. Now, this doesn't quite mean that you can make calls with your PSP. It just means you can use your PSP with Wi-Fi and initiate a Jajah call to go to your cellphone. Useful if you're using a really old phone that doesn't have at least a WAP browser. – Jason Chen

Despite chatter of impending PSP voice functionality from players such as Vonage, Xten, and of course Sony itself, VoIP is one area in which the DS has been trumping its Japanese rival -- until now, that is. That's right, Skype-rival JAJAH has just announced that its free or low-cost service is available immediately to PSP users, and instead of having to download a standalone application, everything is handled through the web broswer: contacts appear as links, and simply clicking one or typing in a phone number initiates the call. What's more, the company is promising impending compatibility with all three current-gen living room consoles, along with the older-but-still-kicking PlayStation 2. Alright Sony, now that someone's given you a kick in the pants, you finally gonna bring that hot VoIP action over here from Japan?

File this under rumor for now, but the folks at Clipset are reporting that Sony is looking for some cell phone gaming action via their Sony Ericsson line of mobiles.
Like the high-end Cybershot and Walkman phones, Sony Ericsson's new "gaming" phones would pack a lot of media muscle and have an interface like the PSP's. The idea sounds feasible, but considering Nokia's success (or lack there of) with the N-Gage and Sony's own success with the PSP, we're not quite sold on this just yet. – Louis Ramirez

Remember a couple weeks ago when retailers were calling for a price drop on the PSP? Their wish was granted today when Gamestop/EB Games dropped the price of the core system to $169.
Was the retailer demands the only reason for the price drop? Perhaps, but there have been a lot of PSP2 speculation lately. If you don't have a PSP, now may be the time to jump, especially with this system getting down to a more reasonable range, the possibilities with the device as a media player and especially because of some good game titles like Puzzle Quest, Ratchet & Clank and, of course, Lumines.
